I’ve owned this Monif C. dress for close to ten years, I think this dress was in one of her first collections when she was still establishing the brand, so I guess this piece is considered vintage. Even though the dress was older, it still wore like it was brand new! This dress was made for the islands, I believe Monif C. is from Barbados, so maybe she had the Caribbean in mind when designing this dress for resort wear.
This was my second time headed to the U.S.Virgin Islands to host Fashionlink V.I. Fashion Weekend and I knew it was going to be very hot and humid. To be fair I’m from Louisiana, so I’m use to the hot and humid weather, but since we don’t have beaches we don’t lay out as much in the sun. This event was held at a resort so a lot of our activities had the beautiful beach as the backdrop, I tried to find clothing that was cool and comfortable. I shopped and bought some new items to wear during the week of festivities, but I also dug through my closet to see what I could pull up.
I wore this dress to co-host the fashion show that was held in St. Thomas, the breeze from the water was really strong that day, so strong that it blew my dress over my head and I flashed the audience!!!! The good news is that I had on some cute underwear that matched my dress! LOL Fortunately, on this picture the breeze was just right and my hair and dress blowing in the wind looked “gone with the wind fabulous”! I will definitely wear this dress again, I hope it holds up for another ten years!
